My Favorites: October

October 22, 2017

Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens.

Bright copper kettles, and warm woolen mittens

Brown paper packages tied up with string.

These are a few of my favorite things!

Much like the famous Rodgers and Hammerstein song from The Sound of Music, I have decided each month to tell you what some of my favorite things are!

I know the month is almost over, but I just came up with this blog idea, so bear with me.

Nothing is off limits on what this favorite thing may be: food, beauty, bingeworthy Netflix shows! Oh my!

*I am not sponsored by any of these products, I simply want to share my love of this with all of you. (Though a sponsorship wouldn’t hurt.)

Piper Wai Deodorant

From a suggestion on Instagram, I discovered this great natural deodorant. With activated charcoal, the deodorant absorbs moisture and neutralizes odor with essential oils like eucalyptus and lavender. I have been actively making baby steps towards recognizing what goes ON my body is just as important as the foods and nutrients that go IN it. Something like deodorant is one of the steps in the right direction.

If you would like to try out Piper Wai, here is a reference code to get 15% off your purchase.

Aveda Inner Light Mineral Dual Foundation

A mouthful to say, but this is hands down one of the best mineral foundations I have used.  The foundation has great layering capabilities, as I have used it for everyday usage as well as auditions and date nights. I try to limit my liquid foundation usage to performances or special occasions, but knowing this foundation can also be applied with a damp sponge for a liquid like application is a bonus.

This product can be purchased at any Aveda school in your area or online. As I am on the fair side, #2 Aster or #3 Linen (for summer months) have been working great.

*The compact must be purchased separately, but is reusable and has a holder for an Aveda lipstick.

Young Living Premium Starter Kit

I have used Essential Oils and products by Young Living since high school, including their Thieves Spray and Lozenges (I always recommend those to performers).  I recently decided I wanted to take my love to the next step and purchased their Premium Starter Kit. The kit comes with 11 Essential Oils, a diffuser, and other product samples. In short, I am head over heels for these products! The Essential Oils can be used topically, diffused, and even used in recipes. I am extremely excited to expand my knowledge and enjoy all Young Living has to offer.

Young Living Geranium Essential Oil

Along with the Premium Starter Pack, I got Geranium EO.  I love floral scents, so purchasing it to diffuse was a no brainer. Along with diffusing, Geranium is great to be used as a perfume, in shampoo and conditioner to add shine to hair, and mixed with a moisturizer to brighten. I have been using the EO at night after I wash my face before bed. I feel an immediate tightening and can see my skin tone even out after applying.

Pumpkin Energy Bites

Pumpkin Spice season is upon us, which means we are blessed, or cursed, with all things pumpkin.  I personally did not like pumpkin ANYTHING until about high school.  This month, I wanted to find a recipe incorporating pumpkin that was not a pie or cake, but was more along the snack line and could be seen as healthy in the grand scheme of things. Along come these Pumpkin Energy Bites. Gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan if you substitute honey for maple syrup.

This recipe was a hit, and I look forward to making them again. I added more pumpkin into my recipe and only had cinnamon on hand, but still loved these in the morning with my coffee or in the afternoon for a sweet pick-me-up.

Mindhunter

Perfect for the month of October, Mindhunter delves into the FBI Behavioral Science Unit in the 1970s as they expand their knowledge of the psychology of murder and see just how creepy it can get.

I recommend this show to anyone who has a love of all things Criminal Minds. This show delivers the same in-depth, sometimes unsettling feeling. The first season is available on Netflix. I don’t know when the second season is due to come out, but I am nonetheless excited.

What are some of your favorite things you have discovered this month? Let me know.

Happy October, everyone!
